Metal Buildings & Red Iron Shops in East Texas — Built to Work as Hard as You Do

Some structures are purely functional. Others become the center of how a property operates — where equipment gets maintained, where cattle get sorted, where a shop business runs, where a family lives and works side by side. The metal buildings we build are made to serve that kind of purpose.

CapRock Roofing & Construction builds metal structures for agricultural, residential, and commercial properties across East Texas. Our work includes metal buildings, metal shops, weld-up shops, red iron shops, and barndominium-related structures. These are the projects we most enjoy taking on — and that shows in the quality and durability of what we put up.

We serve the I-45 corridor from Corsicana to Conroe, including Buffalo, Huntsville, Palestine, Fairfield, Centerville, Madisonville, and Willis.

What We Build

  • Red Iron Shops and Buildings Red iron (structural steel I-beam framing) is the backbone of serious shop and commercial construction. It’s strong, spans wide open spaces without interior posts, and holds up to decades of use under demanding conditions. If you’re putting up a shop, equipment building, or working facility and you want it built to last, red iron framing is the right answer.
  • We weld up red iron structures on-site, which gives us flexibility with dimensions and details that pre-engineered kits don’t always allow. Our red iron shops and buildings are built to your specifications — not to what’s available in a catalog.
  • Metal Buildings Metal buildings cover a broad range of applications — from a simple equipment shelter to a multi-bay commercial structure. Whether you’re looking for something utilitarian and cost-effective or something with more architectural detail, we build metal structures that fit the budget and the purpose.
  • Weld-Up Shops A weld-up shop is built on-site by welding the structural frame together rather than bolting a pre-engineered system. This approach gives you more dimensional flexibility and often produces a stronger, more custom result than a kit building. For customers with specific size requirements or unusual configurations, a weld-up approach often makes the most sense.
  • Barndominiums and Residential Metal Structures The barndominium trend has taken hold across rural Texas, and for good reason. A metal-framed structure that combines living space with a workshop, garage, or agricultural use makes a lot of practical sense on rural properties. We build barndominium-related structures — including the metal framing, exterior envelope, and shop components — and coordinate with subcontractors for interior finish work.
  • Agricultural Structures Livestock barns, hay storage, equipment sheds, calving facilities, and working pens all have specific structural and functional requirements. We understand agricultural building needs and design our structures around how they’ll actually be used.
  • Commercial Metal Buildings Commercial metal structures serve a wide range of businesses — from contractors and fabricators who need shop space to retail and light industrial operations. We work with commercial property owners and builders to plan and construct metal buildings that meet their operational requirements.

Why Metal — and Why Red Iron in Particular

Metal construction has become the dominant choice for agricultural, commercial, and many residential applications in East Texas. Here’s why.

  • Durability A properly built metal structure outperforms wood framing in resistance to fire, pests, rot, and long-term structural deterioration. In a region that sees severe weather, metal construction holds up better under wind and hail events than many alternatives.
  • Span and Open Space Red iron framing allows wide clear spans — open interior space without load-bearing columns in the middle. For shop use, agricultural applications, and commercial operations, that open layout is often critical to how the building functions.
  • Low Maintenance Metal structures require less ongoing maintenance than wood-framed buildings. The exterior cladding can be repainted or recoated over time, but the structural frame itself is highly durable without regular treatment.
  • Value Over Time Metal buildings typically have lower lifecycle costs than wood-framed alternatives when you factor in maintenance, longevity, and insurance costs. The upfront investment in a well-built metal structure tends to pay off over the long run.
  • Speed of Construction Once materials are on-site and the slab is poured, metal building erection moves faster than wood framing in most cases — which matters when you need the structure operational.

Our Process for Metal Building Projects

Metal building projects have more moving parts than most roofing or concrete work, which is why our quoting process is more involved. Here’s how a typical project unfolds.

  • Initial Conversation You tell us what you need — the use, the approximate size, the site conditions, and any specific requirements you have for doors, windows, clearance heights, or other features. We listen carefully, because a quote that’s built on a clear understanding of the project produces better results for everyone.
  • Site Visit We visit the site to understand the conditions — soil, drainage, slope, access, and any existing structures or features that affect the build. The site visit also allows us to assess whether a concrete slab needs to be included and what site preparation may be required.
  • Quoting Metal building quotes can take up to a week, depending on project complexity. That’s not slow — that’s thorough. We take the time to price the materials accurately, account for site-specific factors, and put together a quote that reflects what the project actually requires. Customers who’ve been burned by low-ball bids that grew dramatically once the work started understand why we’d rather get it right the first time.
  • Scheduling Once the quote is approved, we get you on the schedule. Larger or more complex metal building projects require more lead time for materials, but we’ll give you a clear timeline upfront.
  • Construction We handle the foundation (if needed), structural erection, and exterior cladding. For barndominium and residential projects with interior finish work, we coordinate with trusted subcontractors for framing, sheetrock, painting, and other interior scope.
  • Completion and Walk-Through When the structure is complete, we walk it with you — the same way we do on every job. You see the work, we confirm your satisfaction, and then we consider the job done.

Coordinating the Slab and the Structure

One of the most common mistakes in metal building construction is treating the concrete slab and the building as separate projects managed by separate contractors who never talk to each other.

The slab and the building are interdependent. Anchor bolt placement, slab thickness, drainage slope, and load considerations all need to be coordinated between the two scopes of work. When we handle both — which we’re set up to do — that coordination happens naturally. You’re not calling two different contractors to get them aligned, and you’re not finding out at pour time that the anchor bolt layout doesn’t match what the building requires.

If you need both a slab and a metal building, we’d encourage you to talk with us about handling both. It simplifies your project and produces a better result.

Why Choose Us

A Note on Why We Enjoy This Work

We'll be straightforward

Metal buildings and red iron shops are among our favorite projects. There's something satisfying about putting up a structure that will anchor a property for decades — something a landowner or business owner will use every single day. The scale of the work, the craftsmanship required to weld up a solid structural frame, and the functional impact on a property make these projects genuinely rewarding. That's not marketing copy. It's the truth — and customers can generally tell the difference between a contractor who enjoys the work and one who doesn't.
